As I was working to complete my paintings for Subjective at the end of 2009, I ended up having an emergency surgery to diagnose and treat my endometriosis, and my half of this diptych was one of the pieces I had difficulty finishing before the first exhibition of the show. I struggled with having to depict my body because, at the time, I was feeling so betrayed by it. I painted this self-portrait after my second endo surgery a few years later.
