My Papa died in 2022, and this portrait was a part of my grieving process, because, in the reference photo, which you can see in this blog post, his face is very stern. I wanted a version that was lighter. I’ve painted my dad a lot over the years, when he was gruff and when he was happy. I’ve even painted him with sunglasses before too!
