Though I adore the sky, I’ve always found it complicated to paint—something about the layers of light, air, and water makes it difficulat to capture. The first clouds I tried to portray were cartoony, like in the second painting here, or a little too abstract, like in this one. Blues, along with Feeling Pink and A Touch of Yellow, show the difference a few years can make. You can see the making of all three paintings here.
