I like experimenting with materials besides canvas. This portrait is painted on bird’s eye piqué, a cotton that is woven with a pixelated texture. It’s one of the first pieces I painted on bird’s eye, and I later used the texture to suggest the dot-matrix comic book page effect for this portrait and to bring an added richness to this entire series. This piece is on a fabric with even more texture.
