Blog / 2013 / Drawing as Meditation
March 18, 2013
I’ve never been much for meditation. In fact, it’s when I try to tell my brain to be quiet that the real noise begins. That said, I do know how to find peace regularly.
I get to it by drawing. I may find a similar sense of presence as I’m painting, but, because it takes me months to finish that sort of work, the meditative quality isn’t quite so smooth or complete. I can make a drawing like this one in ten or twenty minutes. And by the time it’s done, the noise is gone.
I talk more about trying to meditate in this video about pain.

Art is the love of other humans made tangible across space and time. When a person can’t get a hug from a friend, art is there to make them feel seen and understood. Please share my work with your favorite people!
Maybe this post made you think of something you want to tell me? Or perhaps you have a question about my art? I’d love to hear from you!
