This portrait of George Washington is part of my own artistic celebration of the 250^th anniversary of the United States in 2026, which also includes another presidential portrait. The first leader of the US may have been a problematic figure in many senses—most especially in his decision to enslave his fellow human beings—but Washington set an important precedent for this nation by refusing to make himself a king.
