My palette tends to be super-saturated, so going black and white like with this portrait or pastel like I did with Cloudy Goodlands are a real challenge. In that way, painting the Badlands is a lot like experiencing them in person, because seeing the park and making art about it both helped me get out of my head, much like the rest of my COVID cross-country trip.
