It’s funny to look back at this portrait and remember that I was having trouble painting facial hair at the time. Just few years later, this man commissioned me to paint his portrait specifically because he was interested in documenting his lifelong beard which he was about to lose to cancer treatment, and I remember thoroughly enjoying working with its magnificence.
