An old friend of David’s remarked that this portrait perfectly captures the subject’s essence with some “artistic doodads” added for good measure. This is my favorite comment I’ve ever heard about my work—with the possible exception of this one. This jerboa painting from 2018 brought out the extreme doodadder in me too.
