Like with Jackie, Mark and I first met at a cleanup, but we didn’t really get to know each other until a few months later when he noticed my shirt with the simple message “queer” emblazoned across the front. This wardrobe choice led to a winding conversation full of intrigue and inspiration, wherein Mark revealed that he had tried to assassinate the general in charge of the draft in the 1960s with a water pistol full of red dye. His activism and his humor along with his self-identification as flotsam on the ocean of life all appeal to me deeply.
