Artwork / Archives / 2022 / A Touch of Yellow
In general, I paint the sky only as part of a larger composition, but, in 2017, inspired by the background of this portrait, I focused more than ever before on the play of light on clouds with two images of the sun setting over water: this one and this one. Also in 2017, I started a much larger sunset painting that I didn’t finish until a year and a half later. A Touch of Yellow, along with Blues and Feeling Pink, are a continuation of that work, and they are the first compositions I’ve created where nothing but sky appears. You can see the making of all three paintings here.
