Old Faithful is an incredible natural phenomenon, but more magnificent still, to my mind anyway, is the ritual it spontaneously generates among humans. When we come to together to witness its eruption, for those few moments our many and varied stories merge into one in an obvious way. I’ve been trying to hold onto that visceral feeling of togetherness since I saw Old Faithful during my COVID-across-America road trip.
