This was my first attempt a self-portrait profile, something that I tried again three years later for the first half of this diptych. Profiles tend to be less dynamic than other views of a person. They are the sorts of views that represent a person iconically but not naturally—the sorts of views you see on a coin. I’m not such a big fan, but sometimes they’re necessary, as in this case.
